URINARY TRACK INFECTIONS

Urinary Track Infections (UTIs) can be gotten by anyone. Though seeing a doctor is always highly recommended, they may advise you similiarly -- as far as reducing the number of irritants in your system.

By a strict adherence to a diet which completely elimates intake of the following acidic foods will produce a significant reduction in Urinary Tract Infection symptoms in only 10 days. This is onlt true if the nature of the infection is related to dietary factors.

The foods on the list will perhaps surprise you. Avoid the following:

  • Alchohol
  • Apples
  • Apple Juice
  • Cantaloupe
  • Carbonated Drinks
  • Spicy Foods
  • Coffee
  • Strawberries
  • Cranberries
  • Grapes
  • Guava
  • Lemon Juice
  • Peaches
  • Pineapple
  • Plums
  • Tomatoes
  • Onions
  • Chocolate
After the ten day period has elapsed, and symptoms are relieved, you can begin to slowly add these items back into your diet. Add one item at a time, so that you determine if a particular item on the list is an irritant; this method will enable you to identify the culprit.

It is crititcal that a significant intake of water is maintained throughout this process.

If a culprit is identified, or a regular decrease in acidic foods is desired, the following substitions can be made.

Coffee is highly acidic. However, there are a number of substitutes on the market, including the brands KAVA and ROMBAUTs. Another alternative is called INKA, and all natural hot drink made from various root powders. It is very good for you and can be usually found in bulk sections of health food stores.

Herbal teas are also an excellent coffee substitute. Careful though -- some teas contain citrus.

Ovaltine is a good substitute for chocolate drinks. Carob can be substuted for chocolate in baked goods.

Certain fruit juices: apricot, guava and pear nectar, papaya and watermelon juice all contain almost no acid.

If you're a wine drinker, try a late harvest dessert wine.

Citrus peel, small scrapings, can be used as a flavoring instead of the juice. Avoid the white part of the rind, however.

Use pine nuts in place of other types of nuts.

Breads made with potato flour, soya flour or rice flour.
