Arches - Utah

Descriptive:
With over 2,000 natural arches, the world's largest concentration of sandstone arches, Arches National Park is part of southern Utah's remarkable landscape of canyonlands. Although unique in its own way, Arches' proximity to Canyonlands National Park is revealed in a similiarly stark landscape indicative of the Colorado Plateau. The La Sal mountain range runs along the east and its 12,000 foot peaks command the eye with its dramatic backdrop.

The Colorado Plateau is amazing country for mountain biking. Bicycling is permitted on the roads only, but excellent mountain biking can be had at nearby Moab Slickrock Bike Trail, and at other areas around Arches. Other serious bike trails in the area include the Monitor/Merrimac trail, the Gemini Bridges trail, Kane Creek Canyon Rim/Pritchett Canyon trail, and the Hurrah Pass trail.
Wildlife:
Deer
Coyote
Fox
Rabbit
Squirrel
Kangaroo rat

Delicate Arch is an exquisitely carved arch whose graceful elegance has withstood the winds of time. The trail to the arch offers no shade but gives a lovely view of the Colorado River Gorge.

Fiery Furnace is a patchwork of fin formations which run roughly parallel and can quickly become an entanglement of confusing passageways; for this reason, only ranger-led trips are permitted through this area.

Park Avenue is a narrow corridor whose sandstone walls rise as high as 300 feet.

Wolfe Ranch is the sight of an old ranch built shortly after the turn of the century.
